Director David Fincher (Gone Girl) is bringing filmmaker Herman Mankiewicz's story to the big screen and is working off of a script written by his father Jack Fincher, reports Deadline. 

Oscar-winning actor Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour) is set to portray Mankiewicz, who wrote or co-wrote over 100 films. The forthcoming biopic, simply called Mank, will focus on Citizen Kane, which he collaborated on with Orson Welles.

The movie kicks off in 1930s Hollywood, with Mankiewicz transitioning from newspaper reporter to screenwriter. The story follows him as he races to finish his part of the script for writing partner Welles.

In the newly released teaser trailer, we see Mank in a hospital bed, bloodied and covered in bandages, with Welles approaching his bedside:

Seeing Mank so mangled, we find ourselves asking, "What happened here?" As the trailer rolls out, we learn Mankiewicz had a penchant for alcohol and... picking fights.

Possibly one — or both — of those landed him in the hospital.

You can look for other familiar faces like Tom Burke (BBC America's The Musketeers) as Welles, Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!) as actress Marion Davies, Lily Collins (Les Misérables) as actress Rita Alexander and Charles Dance (Game of Thrones) as newspaper honcho William Randolph Hearst.

Mank is set to release on December 4.
