Anthony Hopkins has turned to Twitter to share a bit of his journey. We know him from standout performances in movies like 1992's Howards End, 1991's Silence of the Lambs, and more recently, in 2020's The Two Popes.
But, according to the actor himself, he's had his struggles.
Just yesterday marked the 45th anniversary of the day he had a "wake-up call," with him saying, "I was headed for disaster, I was drinking myself to death. I'm not preachy, but I got a message."
While it was his own thoughts guiding him, he got it, recalling the actual moment it clicked: "A little thought that said, 'Do you want to live or die?' And I said, 'I want to live.' And suddenly the relief came and my life has been amazing."
You can hear his story in the below clip:
While he's not advising others on how to live their lives, he does remind people to keep fighting the good fight, saying, "All in all, I say hang in there. Today is the tomorrow you were so worried about yesterday."
It hasn't all been smooth sailing for Hopkins, with him saying he still has his off days and bits of self-doubt. But, it sounds like he continues to power through.
He seems to be really optimistic about 2021, saying, "THIS is going to be the best year."
There are great things coming, like Hopkins starring in The Father opposite Olivia Colman, which you can look for on February 26.
What do you think of his words of encouragement?
