We know and love Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor, but you can look for him next in the Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon, set 200 years before the fall of the throne.
In November of last year, Smith made his debut as Prince Daemon Targaryen in the first-look trailer. We hear him as the ambitious prince, say, "Dreams didn't make us kings. Dragons did." That statement is quite telling as he is not a king.
In the newly released trailer, we don’t hear much from Daemon, but clearly there is something on his mind:
In the above clip, we see that the throne is promised to Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy). But, we also hear a Targaryen elder (Eve Best) say to her, “Men would sooner put the realm to the torch than see a woman ascend the iron throne.
Daemon and Rhaenyra share the same last name as they are married and related by blood (uncle and niece).
The forthcoming 10-part series is based on author George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood, and Martin is co-writing the series with Ryan J. Condal (Colony). You can also look for Paddy Considine, who is set to take on the role of King Viserys, Daemon’s older brother.
House of the Dragon is set to premiere over at HBO Max on August 22.
