Karen Gillan has cornered the market on sci-fi, starring in Doctor Who and The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and even crossing over to sci-fi/fantasy with Thor.
She’s now stepping into comedy, set to star in the forthcoming Judd Apatow movie The Bubble.
Gillan completed filming on the movie earlier this year, and she was pretty excited to share the news.
And now she’s excited to talk about what it was like making a movie — about making a movie during quarantine — during quarantine (say that three times).
Gillan chatted with Empire Online, saying quarantine started off pretty typical, “I kind of experienced lockdown like everybody else at the beginning. Last year, there was a few months of just kind of, 'Oh, I'm gonna start cooking!' That's gone now. But then I was thrown back into work probably last October, and I've been going ever since.”
She’s been quite busy, filming a movie called Dual (also sci-fi), Thor: Love and Thunder, and the aforementioned The Bubble, which revolves around a group of actors trying to make a movie at a hotel during a pandemic.
Empire points out, “That sounds really interesting and meta,” with Gillan agreeing, “It was meta as all hell.”
She continues, “I just had come off Thor where I had the exact experience of quarantining and then going to the cast dinner, and everybody's socially awkward because we've forgotten how to interact. And then you've tried to make this big, huge film in a pandemic. And then I go and make a film exactly about all of that. So, I was like, 'What is going on!?’”
Quarantine or not, that sounds like A LOT.

We give Gillan credit for keeping at it.
It makes us even more excited to see the trailer for The Bubble.
The release date has yet to be announced, but it's predicted for 2022.
