Emma Thompson Talk Show Comedy 'Late Night' Gets a Release Date

Good news for fans of Dame Emma Thompson's lighter side: her new comedy movie Late Night has been given a June 7 release date.

In the film written by and co-starring Mindy Kaling, Thompson plays a legendary late night talk show host who hires a female writer (Kaling) to revitalize her flagging series and cool concerns over the production team's diversity.

Late Night premiered at Sundance Film Festival in June to mostly positive reviews, with plenty of praise heaped on Thompson's performance, which earned comparisons to Meryl Streep's darkly comic turn in The Devil Wears Prada.

It wasn't just fellow actors but a full-fledged chat show host (and actor) has chimed in:

The film was purchased by Amazon Studios at Sundance, Deadline reports, and will get a full theatrical release. Its supporting cast includes Hugh Dancy, John Lithgow, and Denis O'Hare.

Thompson has been especially busy in recent years. Last Christmas, a festive rom-com starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding which she co-wrote and appears in, is due in theaters November. She also has a key role in How to Make a Girl, the upcoming film adaptation of a semi-autobiographical novel by British journalist Caitlin Moran.

On top of that, she's leading Years & Years, the upcoming BBC TV drama from former Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies.

We recently included Dame Emma and her sister Sophie Thompson in our round-up of awesome Brit sister duos from the world of entertainment.
