Casting News: Regé-Jean Page to Star in New 'The Saint' Movie

Bridgerton breakout star Regé-Jean Page has landed what could become his biggest role to date: the lead in a new The Saint movie.

According to Deadline, Page will executive produce and star in a "new, reimagined" version of the classic 1960s spy series starring Roger Moore.

The movie has a script by award-winning playwright Kwame Kwei-Armah, the artistic director of London's Young Vic theater, who collaborated with Idris Elba on the 2019 stage musical Tree. Based on both the 1960s TV series and the 1920s literary character created by Leslie Charteris, the movie will follow Simon Templar a.k.a. The Saint – a Robin Hood-style criminal with a conscience – as he embarks on a globe-trotting adventure. You may also be familiar with the 1997 movie The Saint, starring Val Kilmer in the title role.

Last year it was reported by Variety that Chris Pine was attached to star in a new The Saint movie directed by Rocketman's Dexter Fletcher. According to Deadline, it's currently unclear whether Fletcher is now on board to direct the Page iteration of the movie.

Page is currently riding high thanks to his Emmy-nominated role as Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings in Bridgerton, which he will not be reprising in the show's second season. He has, however, signed up to star alongside Pine and Michelle Rodriguez in the upcoming Dungeons & Dragons movie.
