This is not a drill: Neil Patrick Harris has joined the cast of Doctor Who.
According to a news post on the show's official website, Harris is "currently filming scenes set to air in 2023 as part of the show's 60th anniversary."
Returning showrunner Russell T Davies said of the casting: "It's my huge honor to open our studio doors for the mighty Neil Patrick Harris… but who, why, what is he playing? You’ll just have to wait. But I promise you, the stuff we're shooting now is off the scale. Doctor beware!"
Davies added a further clue on his Instagram by saying Harris is "playing the greatest enemy the Doctor has ever faced." Color us very, very intrigued.
Of course, this isn't the first time Harris and Davies have worked together. The How I Met Your Mother actor previously appeared in It's a Sin, Davies' acclaimed 2020 miniseries about the HIV/AIDS crisis.
And at this point, the cast for Doctor Who's 60th anniversary is really taking shape. Harris joins new Doctor Ncuti Gatwa, returning favorites David Tennant and Catherine Tate, and new cast member Yasmin Finney in the 2023 run.
