Zig-a-Zig-Ah! A Spice Girls Animated Movie is in the Works
Are you ready to spice up your life once more? A new Spice Girls movie is in the works at Paramount Animation. This won't be the first movie featuring the girlband, with Spice World premiering in 1997.
All five members of the iconic British pop group – Melanie Brown (Scary), Emma Bunton (Baby), Melanie Chisholm (Sporty), Geri Halliwell (Ginger), and Victoria Beckham (Posh) are "on board" with the project.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the animated movie is "in early development" with Simon Fuller, the group's manager and creator of American Idol, serving as producer.
It's expected to feature a mix of Spice Girls classics and new songs, and Paramount Animation's president, Mireille Soria, has said that the group members are "very involved." Screenwriting duo Karen McCullah and Kirsten "Kiwi" Smith, who previously wrote Legally Blonde and Ella Enchanted, are writing the script.
Four members of the Spice Girls are currently on a reunion tour of the U.K. which concludes with a trio of shows at London's Wembley Stadium beginning tonight (June 13). Victoria Beckham opted to skip the tour so she could concentrate on her fashion business.
The beloved girlband last toured the U.S. as part of their "The Return of the Spice Girls Tour" tour in 2007-8. During their '90s heyday, they starred in a live-action movie, Spice World, which grossed an impressive $151 million at the global box office.
One person who'll definitely be pleased about the new animated movie is Emma Stone, who spoke about her love of the Spice Girls during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show. Check it out below.
