It all kicked off earlier today (January 5), when London's Evening Standard ran a story saying Bonham Carter is "all but confirmed" to replace Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret in the Netflix series.

Here's the exact wording from the paper's Londoner's Diary section:

We are told that HBC is all but confirmed to play the inimitable royal. The two-time Oscar nominee was rumored to be in contention to play Elizabeth II herself but has instead landed the far riskier, funnier and louche sister Margaret, which sounds like a better part anyway.

As you know from our earlier coverage, Anglo fan favorite Olivia Colman (Broadchurch) has been confirmed to take over the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Claire Foy, who starred as the young queen in seasons one and two, available on Netflix.

And, Colman has talked about the possibility of her Broadchurch co-star David Tennant taking over as Prince Philip from his Doctor Who colleague, Matt Smith.

Whew! That's a lot of moving parts.

But, just to reiterate, Bonham Carter and Tennant's casting are by no means 100 percent happening. For now, we just need to sit back and wait for the official word so we can safely set our expectations for season three.

And, it's not just fans who are getting all wobbly over this most recent casting rumor; the press is right there with them. Check out this headline from Elle.com: "If Helena Bonham Carter is Really Going to be in The Crown I'll Have to Lie Down."

Yep, having both Bonham Carter and Colman on-screen together as royal sisters would be a lot to soak in. Throw Tennant into the mix and there's no doubt we'd have to watch The Crown horizontally.
