Where Are They Now?: 'Doctor Who's Tenth Doctor, Companions and Guest Stars

The Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant, has many memorable lines, but one of the most prominent was right after regenerating and saying, "I wanted to be ginger." Possibly it stands out at the moment because Tennant is now finally going red as the demon Crowley in the forthcoming TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Good Omens. Tennant is always on our radar, but let's take a minute to put a spotlight on him and some of his Doctor Who castmates.

The latest roles might be on your watch list already, with others being completely new to you. Here’s a roundup of the goings-on all in one place, to make it easier for you to catch up with some of your DW favorites:

1. David Tennant

As mentioned, we can look for Tennant in the Amazon Prime series Good Omens, premiering on May 21. Tennant takes on the role of Crowley and is set to star opposite Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale. The two put their differences aside to save the world. Frances McDormand provides the voice of God and Benedict Cumberbatch will lend his voice to... Satan (aghast). That is a whole lot of talent in one space.

In the meantime, you can go back and re-watch more recent roles, like his outstanding performance in BBC America's Broadchurch. Tennant and DW alum Olivia Colman both portray detectives, teaming up to investigate the murder of a young boy. Jodie Whittaker (the Thirteenth Doctor) portrays the boy's grieving mother. If that we're enough of a DW crossover, Chris Chibnall is the creator of Broadchurch and the current DW showrunner.

On a lighter note, Tennant starred in the 2018 comedy Camping, opposite Jennifer Gardner. Gardner portrays an over-the-top wife, working at full-force to celebrate her husband's (Tennant) birthday during a multi-family camping trip, whether he likes it or not. You can also listen for him in the DuckTales reboot (2017-2019), providing the voice for Scrooge McDuck.

Billie Piper played companion to the Doctor as Rose Tyler. One of Piper's most prolific roles was as Belle in the biographical series Secret Diary of a Call Girl (2007-2011). We recently saw her in Penny Dreadful (2014-2016) as Lily, coincidentally, also a prostitute. In 2017, she hit the stage, starring in Lorca's Yerma. Just last year, Piper starred in the crime series Collateral, opposite Carey Mulligan. Piper takes on the role of Karen Mars, a key witness in a murder investigation. Next, we can look for Piper in the feature film Eternal Beauty, also starring Sally Hawkins, Penelope Wilton and David Thewlis. She's completed filming on the anti-romcom Rare Beasts, which she wrote, directed and starred in, but there's no release date as of yet.

In 2016, we saw her pop up in two episodes of the Drunk History: U.K. series as Elsie Wright and Mary Wilson. In 2017, she reunited with Tennant on DuckTales, providing the voice for Magica De Spell. She's signed on to write and star in a new series called Americons, opposite Tennant (again!), but as of now the details are very limited.

Bernard Cribbins starred in the 1966 DW feature film Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 as companion Tom Campbell. In 2007, he returned to play Wilfred Mott, also a companion. Not many actors have that bragging right. In 2015, he starred as DCI Ronald Sainsbury in the crime series New Tricks. In 2018, he starred opposite Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous) in the family comedy Patrick, about a young woman (Beattie Edmondson) who is bequeathed a dog unexpectedly. If you'd like to go back and check out some of his earlier work, in 2003 he starred in the British soap Coronation Street as Wally Bannister.

In 2012, Barrowman joined the DC Comics family, starring in Arrow as Malcolm Merlyn. He reprised the role in the DC spinoff Legends of Tomorrow from 2016-2017. If you're keen to for some "vintage" Barrowman, in 2010 he starred in five episodes of Desperate Housewives as Patrick Logan. He's currently signed on to star in the TV movie Glamorous, opposite Brooke Shields.

You can look for her in the 2018 coming-of-age movie Swinging Safari, opposite Guy Pearce. In addition to acting, her main gig is pop princess-ing. She is currently on tour, promoting her new album Golden.
