WATCH: Tom Hardy Plays an Addled Al Capone in First 'Capone' Trailer

Tom Hardy has already portrayed notorious East End gangsters the Kray Twins in Legend, and now he’s playing equally infamous Chicago gangster Al Capone in Capone.

Director Josh Trank (Chronicle) has shared the first trailer for the movie, which was originally titled Fonzo. It follows the Prohibition-era criminal mastermind during the final years of his life.

Having completed an 11-year prison sentence at the United States Penitentiary, Atlanta, Capone and wife Mae (Linda Cardellini) are now living in Palm Beach, Florida, but neurosyphilis has heavily impacted the once-mighty gangster's mental faculties.

The trailer shows a clearly addled Capone padding around his home as government officials plot to return him to jail. Check it out below.

Capone was originally expected to play in theaters later this year, but Trank confirmed it will now be getting a VOD release on May 12. Kyle MacLachlan, Matt Dillon, and War & Peace's Jack Lowden co-star.

This week, Hardy has also lined up a very different kind of assignment. From April 27, he'll be reading a bedtime story on BBC kids' platform CBeebies every night for a week, accompanied by his dog Blue.
