We've had a look at behind-the-scenes snaps and a teaser trailer for the forthcoming Mary Poppins Returns, starring Emily Blunt in the title role. And now we get to see the characters actually speaking, singing and... flying.

The magical nanny (originally played by Julie Andrews) helped raise the Banks children in the first film, premiering in 1964. She's returned because her former charges have lost their way, giving up hope. We hear the grown-up Michael (Ben Whishaw) say in the official trailer, just released today (September 17), "We are about to lose our home. Everything is falling to pieces, since your mother..." He cries into his hand and can't even finish the sentence.

Oh no, this is not looking good. Mary has her work cut out for her:

She can't bring the children's mother back, but possibly she can show them how to carry on, moving past their loss. It seems like it might be working for Michael's daughter, with her saying, "Everything is possible."

Not just "anything," but, "everything," "even the impossible," reinforced by the governess.

For those who might be doubtful of a new Mary Poppins movie, the first look footage of director Rob Marshall's version is reminiscent of the days of old, seamlessly mixing live-action scenes with animation, which helps bring this fanciful story to life.

The trailer mainly focuses on Mary Poppins, her friend Jack (Lin-Manuel Miranda), the adult Banks children (Whishaw, Emily Mortimer), and Michael Banks' little ones, but at the end of the clip we get a look at the other big name stars in character, including Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury, Julie Walters... and, the one and only, Dick Van Dyke, returning to the franchise.

Disney's Mary Poppins Returns opens in theaters on December 19.
