Thandiwe Newton is heading from Westworld to the American West – that is, in her upcoming movie God's Country.
The trailer for the neo-Western thriller introduces us to Newton's embattled lead character, Sandra Guidry. She's a former cop turned college professor living in a remote town, who comes home to find a mysterious red truck parked in her driveway.
It turns out to belong to a couple of local hunters who want access to the forest behind her house. When she politely declines and local law enforcers appear reluctant to help, it sets the stage for what is described in the synopsis as "an escalating battle of wills."
We know whose side we're on...

God's Country is based on Winter Light, a short story by James Lee Burke. Julian Higgins (TV's Guidance) directs from a script he co-wrote with Shaye Ogbonna, and the supporting cast includes Yellowstone's Jefferson White and Bad Blood's Joris Jarsky.
It opens in theaters September 16, and in the meantime, we can catch Newton in season four of Westworld, which is airing now on HBO.
