WATCH: Sandra Bullock Stars in Post-Apocalyptic Thriller 'Bird Box' TrailerOctober 25, 2018
Singer-turned-author Josh Malerman's 2014 post-apocalyptic thriller novel Bird Box has been made into a feature-length movie, starring Sandra Bullock (Ocean's Eight) in the lead role, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The film premieres on Netflix and in select theaters on December 21, revolving around Malorie (Bullock), a mother attempting to protect her children from an evil... something.
In the newly released trailer we see Malorie stranded in a forest, blindfolded to protect her from a force/monster that's able to detect a person's worst fears and make them a reality.
We hear someone, or something, telling Malorie to, "Open your eyes." But she won't, and in response yells, "Please don't take my children!"
Oh boy, she just told it her worst fear. But the blindfold stays on, which in this reality seems to be the key to keeping terrifying thoughts locked up.
Malorie and her kids are part of a small group of people in hiding, who decide to make an escape. First they pile into a car, and later we see Malorie and her two children getting into a boat on a rapid river... blindfolded.
“Listen to me," she says. "We are going on the trip now. It’s going to be rough. If you hear something in the woods, you tell me. If you hear something in the water, you tell me. But under no circumstance are you allowed to take off your blindfold."
Bullock is joined by John Malkovich (The ABC Murders), whose character's name is yet to be revealed but he appears to one of the small group of apocalypse survivors. Bird Box also stars Sarah Paulson (American Horror Story) and Trevante Rhodes (Moonlight).
Eric Heisserer (Arrival) wrote the screenplay and The Night Manager's Susanne Bier directed.
