If you enjoyed last year's adoption comedy Trying, you'll be glad to know its second season is nearly here.

A new trailer shows Rafe Spall's Jason and Esther Smith's Nikki getting deeper into the adoption process as they try to find a child who's right for them (and for whom they are right for as parents). Imelda Staunton's adoption rep Penny also appears in the trailer and once again is on scene-stealing form.

"It's a mammoth undertaking," Penny says of bringing up a child. "And I should know. I have brought up two happy, friendly, well-adjusted children – out of four."

Discussing the show's appeal with The Independent recently, Spall said of his and Smith's characters: "Whether it’s familial difficulties or difficulties with friends, they’re just two people that you root for, that you care about, that you hopefully identify with."

He also said that the new season will see them navigate the adoption process while being pitted against "people who may have nicer houses, may have fancier jobs, and may have ostensibly achieved more."

"I think we all know how that feels," he added. Season two of Trying, which is produced by BBC Studios, launches May 21 on Apple TV+.
