WATCH: Natalie Portman Rocks Out in 'Vox Lux' Trailer

Closer co-stars Natalie Portman and Jude Law have reunited for the rock drama Vox Lux, premiering on December 7, reports ComingSoon.net. In the new trailer, we get a look at Portman as pop star Celeste.

Celeste looks like a hybrid of the heroines from Black Swan and Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. But when she gets on stage, the impact of her image dissipates and we're taken in by her words: "So, tell me, how many of you have cried yourselves to sleep at night? People have been trying to take me down for years. But I won't stay down."

Whoa, Celeste, who's been coming for you?

The movie begins in 1999, and spans 15 years to tell the story of her survival from tragedy and rise to fame:

Law plays Celeste's manager, with his character simply listed as "The Manager." We don't see a ton of him in the trailer, but in one scene he's on the other side of a hotel door asking Celeste to come out. Which she does, spilling out of a room on the opposite side of the hall and collapsing to the floor with a thud.

Yep, he has his hands full.

The story carries into 2017, with Celeste now 31 years old and the mother of a teenage daughter. The pop icon is still a handful, and her daughter is worried about her mom.

Later, there's a flash of a scene with masked gunmen, and we're not sure what that's about, but it does reinforce the complexity of Celeste's life.

Actor-turned-director Brady Corbert (Thunder Birds) wrote and directed the film, featuring original songs by Sia.

In 2016, Portman and Sia were both guests on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. And, they all sat down to sing:
