WATCH: Maisie Williams Leads Teen Squad in 'The New Mutants' Trailer

We first reported on the X-Men spinoff, entitled The New Mutants, two years ago. There was a break in filming, which explains the gap, but it seems like things are back to business as usual... well, as usual as things can be for teen mutants.

The story is based on the monthly comic book series by the same name, which first hit shelves in 1982. We can look for Anglo favorite Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) and other familiar faces like Anna Taylor-Joy (Peakey Blinders) and Charlie Heaton (Stranger Things).

In the just released trailer, we see a group of teens sitting in a circle, led by an advisor. It appears to be some sort of group therapy, with each one talking about their "first time" using their powers. Williams' character, Rahne, describes being in a dream state.

As the confessions continue, they get darker and darker:

As seen in the above clip, some of the mutants' lack of control resulted in death. But, Illyana (Taylor-Joy) shows no remorse. Actually, she seems to have quite enjoyed it, saying coolly, "I killed 18 men. One. By. One."

Newcomer Blu Hunt (The Originals) plays a girl named Danny, who wakes up in a hospital bed, handcuffed to the side rail for her own safety. Once freed, she realizes there's an electronic fence surrounding the facility, with Illyana telling her, "This isn't a hospital. It's a cage."

Illyana may be onto something, with their advisor saying to Danny (who is strapped down once again), "It's important we find out your power. So we can help you get better." Wait a minute, mutants aren't sick. At least, not the ones under Professor X's (Sir Ian McKellen/James McAvoy) leadership.

According to earlier reports, The New Mutants will take a step away from the original X-Men movies and lean more toward horror.

You can look for The New Mutants on April 3.

Do you think this has been worth the wait?
