WATCH: Madonna Rings in the New Year with Surprise Performance at NYC Club

People may opt to celebrate New Year's Eve by going out or having a quiet night in. We can easily say, Madonna does not fall into the latter group.

And, last night (December 31), a lucky group of people were surprised when she popped up at NYC's Stonewall Inn, a famous gay bar known for helping launch the LGBT movement. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, a series of riots against a police raid.

Madonna shared some words with the gathering, discussing acceptance, and then performed two songs with her son, David, who is 13. David played a red guitar, accompanying his mother, as she sang her 1989 hit "Like a Prayer" and the 1961 Elvis Presley classic "Can't Help Falling in Love."

If you happened to be tucked into bed a little after midnight last night, here's a look at the performance:

The folks at Stonewall seemed delighted to have the surprise guest, putting up this note, exclaiming, "Madonna was here."
