WATCH: Idris Elba Cleverly Responds to Bond Rumors in His Latest DJ Set
Over the last couple of years, we've seen a steady stream of rumors pegging Idris Elba to the iconic role of James Bond. These began swirling again earlier this month when longtime Bond producer Barbara Broccoli was reported to have said "it is time" for an actor of color to play 007. Elba has already responded playfully to these rumors on Twitter, and now he's had fun with them again on stage. During his weekend DJ set – seriously, is there anything Elba can't do? – at London's Elrow Town dance music festival, he opened with a remix of the instantly recognizable Bond theme. Check out the witty moment right at the start of the video below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=qvQ3ugT4uLo Given how long Elba has been dealing with Bond rumors, we've got to say, it's pretty impressive that he's retained any kind of a sense of humor about them. Also over the weekend, numerous outlets ran stories featuring quotes in which Elba appeared to express concerns with reports linking him to Bond. It's worth noting, though, that these quotes are taken from an interview given to The New York Times back in October 2017, so his thoughts on the matter may have changed in the meantime. He said at the time: "I think [the rumors are] more about, "We just want to have a black guy play James Bond" rather than, "Idris Elba, the actor, play James Bond. That’s the part I’m like, ugh, come on.'" And what we do know for certain is that Elba's schedule is already pretty packed. He's making a new sitcom called Turn Up Charlie for Netflix, playing the villain in Fast and Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw, and starring in a new, slightly different take on The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Oh, and let's not forget the upcoming fifth season of Luther, or his big screen directorial debut Yardie, which opens in Elba's native U.K. this Friday. Besides, Daniel Craig hasn't given up Bond's famous tuxedo yet. Bond 25, directed by Danny Boyle, will start shooting in December 2018 and hit theaters in October 2019. Are you enjoying the James Bond banter?
