X-Men star Hugh Jackman is making his return to sci-fi, starring in the forthcoming Reminiscence, reports ComingSoon.net.

He's set to take on a character named Nick Bannister, who is described as a detective of the mind. He makes a living by helping clients access lost memories. The story is set in a pretty dismal future, where there isn't much to look forward to.

So, instead... people use science to call on their past.

Bannister has a new client, Mae (Rebecca Ferguson), but when she goes missing, he becomes obsessed with her disappearance.

In the new trailer, we see his partner (Thandiwe Newton) advise him to just move on. That's easier said than done:

We can't blame a guy for caring, but, what's really driving his motivation?

In the above clip, we hear Bannister say, "Nothing is more addictive than the past."

The more Bannister looks, the more he finds... and none of it comes up as very good — "larceny, bribery, murder."

Reminiscence is written and directed by Westworld creator Lisa Joy, making this her feature film debut.
