Helen Mirren has been sporting some super long hair on the red carpet and now we know why. It’s for her super villain-y character in Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
Okay, we get it, the movie is about the lead character, played by Zachary Levi, but, of course, Mirren is the one who got our attention.
To backtrack, the original movie revolves around a young boy (Asher Angel) who meets a wizard and is gifted with superhero human abilities. And, when he calls on them, he’s all grown up. It’s kind of like a suped-up version of the 1988 movie Big.
Now, we’re heading into the sequel and Shazam is facing some new adversaries, including Mirren as Hespera. And, in the newly released trailer, we get to see Mirren in all of her glory, with all her long silver hair cascading down her back.
We suppose, she’s “letting her hair down” so she can get to the business at hand:  
In the above clip, Shazam refers to her as "old," but Hespera isn't having it. As well, Mirren herself isn't taken aback by the term, saying in an interview with People, "Other people call it growing older, but I call it growing up. And one of the advantages is that you literally get to be wiser. Life is a constant process of learning."
We love it when Mirren pops up unexpectedly, like when she asked Vin Diesel to star in the Fast and Furious franchise. And, that’s all it took. She was cast as Queenie starring in 2019’s Hobbs & Shaw. She didn’t stop there, reprising the role in 2021’s F9: The Fast Saga and is currently filming 2023’s Fast X.
