WATCH: Gal Gadot and Chris Pine Reunite in 'Wonder Woman 1984' Trailer
The first trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 is here, and it shows Gal Gadot's Diana Prince reuniting with her love interest from the first movie, Chris Pine's Steve Trevor.
Given events in 2017's Wonder Woman, in which it seemed that Pine's character had met a grisly end, his return might come as something of a surprise to fans. Still, we're sure that writer-director Patty Jenkins and her co-screenwriters Geoff Johns and David Callaham have come up with a clever explanation for his return.
We also meet Kristen Wiig's character, Barbara Minerva a.k.a. Cheetah, who's presented in the trailer as a friend to Gadot's Wonder Woman. However, DC Comics aficionados will know that Cheetah's loyalty is unlikely to last for long.
The trailer also doubles down on the movie's '80s setting by using New Order's iconic synth-pop hit 'Blue Monday' as its soundtrack. Look out, too, for Game of Thrones alum Pedro Pascal as Maxwell Lord, a high-powered adversary for Gadot's superhero.

Though it's the follow-up to 2017's Wonder Woman, which became a major box office hit with a global gross of $822 million, producer Charles Roven has said that Wonder Woman is "not a sequel," but rather "the next iteration of Wonder Woman."
"It’s a completely different time frame and you’ll get a sense of what Diana-slash–Wonder Woman had been doing in the intervening years," he told Vulture in March. "But it’s a completely different story that we’re telling. Even though it’ll have a lot of the same emotional things: a lot of humor, a lot of brave action. Tugs at the heart strings as well.”
Wonder Woman 1984 is set for release on June 5, 2020, so we have a little wait to find out exactly what this all means.
