WATCH: Emily Blunt Makes Her Debut as Mary Poppins in Teaser Trailer for Sequel
It feels like a typical Monday, but, really, there is something magical about today. And, what might be bringing on this state of bliss?
Oh, the first trailer for Mary Poppins Returns premiered last night during the 2018 Academy Awards and is now available online.
The Disney clip is short, so we shall keep the lead-up brief, but we'll give you a quick heads up: you can expect the arrival of Emily Blunt as the magical nanny, Mary Poppins (1:35) in the below first look:

We also see Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack and Dick Van Dyke — who starred in the 1964 adaptation as a chimney sweep — portraying Mr. Dawes, Jr., son to the banker from the original film. The Banks children are now grown in the sequel, with Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer taking on the roles of Michael and Jane Banks.
Michael says to his former nanny, "Mary Poppins!? It is wonderful to see you." And she responds, "Yes, it is. Isn't it?" She hasn't changed a bit, and we're so very happy to see that's the case.
The film also stars Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Angela Lansbury, but we've yet to see footage of their characters.
As we mentioned in earlier posts, the sequel picks up 20 years after the original film. The story is based on Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers' follow-up novels. This isn't a remake of the original, but based on new material.
If you haven't already, you can learn about Travers and how her creation came to the big screen in the biopic Saving Mr. Banks:

Travers based her character on a real-life person she knew as a child. It's nice to see her Mary Poppins is getting a second life on the big screen, introducing the magical nanny to an entirely new audience and returning to those who grew up with her.
You can look for Mary Poppins Returns later this year, arriving to theaters on Christmas day, December 25.
