When we last saw Offred (Elisabeth Moss), The Handmaid's Tale's narrator and protagonist, she was being carted off in an ominous black van. And so ended the first season of Hulu's bleakly compelling TV adaptation of Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel.

We could hardly contain our excitement for the next installment, and this just-released trailer (below) takes us one step closer to the beginning of season two, which premieres on April 25.

If you've read the book, first published in 1985, you'll know it's been significantly tweaked for TV. Plus, Atwood never wrote a follow-up, so the story will now take on a life of its own. However, the author has been on hand to collaborate with show runner Bruce Miller, so you can be sure the screen version of Handmaid's will continue to be flavored by its literary creator.

In an interview last year with CinemaBlend, Miller said: "We had lots of discussions about what would happen to the characters after season one in small and big ways. We've been talking about it ever since the middle of season one.

"There are things Margaret thought about a lot because over the years, and that's one of the biggest questions she's been asked, is what happens next to these characters. So, it wasn't a question that I was bringing up to her for the first time."

For now, we've got one burning question: "Where's Offred?"

The trailer give us hints but no answers. Set to a haunting cover of Buffalo Springfield's "Stop Children What's that Sound," the words sung, "There's something happening here, what it is, ain't exactly clear," have a new resonance.
