WATCH: Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston and Maisie Williams Team Up for 'Early Man'

If you're curious about what actually went down during prehistoric times, then the animated adventure-comedy Early Man will speed you up. Like, they had soccer! Who knew?

Okay, possibly that bit is fictionalized, but it's fun to picture cavemen participating in a match of footie. More likely, the cavemen and women were hunting and scavenging, and this slightly more realistic history lesson is included in the new animated movie, too. The feature-length film revolves around a rabbit hunting tribe, who run into something... "bigger."

Like the new trailer says in the intro, "Meet your great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great ancestors."

Are you picking up on a Wallace & Gromit vibe? Or, Shaun the Sheep? There's a reason for that: both of those franchises were created by Nick Park and Aardman, who also bring us Early Man.

Three of the leads are voiced by Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hiddleston and Maisie Williams, and you can also listen out for Timothy Spall (Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams) and Richard Ayoade (Paddington 2).

If you're keen to see more of these actors, Redmayne is filming the sequel to Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Hiddleston's Thor: Ragnarok is currently in theaters, and Williams is set to star in the forthcoming X-Men spin-off, The New Mutants.

Early Man will hit theaters on January 2, 2018 in the U.K., followed by a U.S. release on February 16.

Do you think the history books were wrong, and there WAS soccer in the early days?
