The first trailer for Where the Crawdads Sing is here, giving us a peek at Daisy Edgar-Jones' intriguing lead role.
The Normal People actress stars in the upcoming movie as Kya, a young woman who has grown up fending for herself in a North Carolina marsh. Because of her humble and unusual roots, she is treated as an outcast by the local community.
Kya enters into a romantic relationship with Chase Andrews (Harris Dickinson), the popular local quarterback. But when he is found dead in mysterious circumstances, she becomes the prime suspect. Where the Crawdads Sing is based on a bestselling novel by Delia Owens and counts Reese Witherspoon among its producers.
The haunting trailer doesn't give too much more away:

Where the Crawdads Sing, due in theaters July 15, is only Edgar-Jones' third movie role following 2018's indie drama Pond Life and Fresh, a black comedy film that premiered earlier this month.
The 23-year-old rising star made a major splash in 2020's BBC/Hulu coming-of-age series Normal People, for which she earned BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations.
