Claire Foy has starred in a number of period drama series, like Upstairs Downstairs, Wolf Hall, and The Crown. She’s returning to the genre, set to portray Margaret Campbell, Duchess of Argyll, in the three-part miniseries A Very British Scandal.
Foy stars opposite Paul Bettany as her husband, Ian Campbell, Duke of Argyll. The story revolves around the ending of their marriage, due to extramarital affairs. According to the description, it was only Margaret who was “scrutinized,” based on the evidence her husband collected to use against her.
In the recently released trailer, we hear her say at the start of their courtship, “We have to promise that we will never bore one another.”
It seems she lived up to that agreement:
The official description outlines what to expect, reading, “The second installment focuses on the divorce of the Duke and Duchess of Argyll, one of the most notorious, extraordinary, and brutal legal cases of the 20th century. Famed for her charisma, beauty, and style, Margaret, Duchess of Argyll, dominated the front pages as the divorce exposed accusations of forgery, theft, violence, drug-taking, bribery, and an explicit Polaroid picture that was to haunt her for the rest of her life.”
The three-part miniseries is created and written by Sarah Phelps, who we know for The Dublin Murders.
You can look for A Very British Scandal over at Amazon Prime on April 22.
