WATCH: Rose Williams' Charlotte Heywood Returns to 'Sanditon' in Season Two Trailer

The wait is nearly over for Sanditon fans: Masterpiece PBS has released a trailer for the Jane Austen adaptation's eagerly anticipated second season.

It shows heroine Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams) returning to the pretty seaside resort of Sanditon, a place that isn't necessarily as idyllic as it seems. She is joined by several familiar faces – but not by Theo James, who will not be reprising his role as her first season love interest Sidney Parker.

Based on Austen's unfinished novel of the same name, Sanditon premiered on U.K. network ITV in 2019 before airing on Masterpiece PBS in January 2020.  As Digital Spy reported at the time, ITV initially decided not to order a second season, leaving Sanditon fans incredibly disappointed. However, the series was given a second life last year when Masterpiece PBS and Britbox U.K. teamed up to commission two more seasons. The new seasons will also air in the U.K. on ITV.

ITV's Polly Hill acknowledged in a May 2021 press release that "the success of Sanditon in the U.S. has paved the way for [the show's] return." The new season will premiere on Masterpiece PBS on March 20, then launch on BritBox U.K. the following day. Bring it on!
