WATCH: Charlize Theron Stars as an Immortal Mercenary in 'The Old Guard' Trailer
Charlize Theron has tackled a number of genres, but action seems to be one of her go-tos. And, here she is, starring in the Netflix adaptation of Greg Rucka's comic The Old Guard. You can look for the feature-length movie on the streaming service on July 10.
Now that we know the where and when, what's the story about? In this action-fantasy, her character, Andromache of Scythia, is immortal. She just goes by "Andy" for short. She oversees a small group of soldiers, who “have been working as mercenaries throughout the ages,” according to the description.
The soldiers and their leader have no idea how they’ve developed the ability to dodge death, but they use it to their advantage, selling their services as killers-for-hire.
It’s not clear how long they have been on duty, but they have lived through to the 21st century, when the story takes place. While the soldiers have outgrown the fear of dying, they are now in jeopardy after a baddie organization discovers their supernatural-ness.

Just because they can't die, doesn't mean they don't hurt. The group is concerned that if they are captured, they'll be used as weapons.
Adding to the mix, the group is caught off guard when learning of another immortal, a female Marine. It hasn’t been revealed where her loyalty lies.
Theron is joined by Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange), Marwan Kenzari (Aladdin‘s Jafar) and KiKi Layne (If Beale Street Could Talk), with Gina Prince-Bythewood (Cloak & Dagger) directing.
Theron has starred in other action flicks like 2017's Atomic Blonde and 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road.
