Warwick Davis on Returning for 'Willow' TV Series: 'I'm a Bit Older and a Bit Wiser as an Actor'
Earlier this week, it was announced that the forthcoming Willow TV series has gotten some momentum, with this Tweet from writer Jonathan Kasdan (Solo: A Star Wars Story). But, other than it being in pre-production, there wasn't much else available, like the storyline or who's to star.
Since then, Warwick Davis, who took on the title role of the 1988 fantasy movie Willow, has provided some details. Davis, who we recently saw in last year's Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, is planning on returning for the series.
If you need a refresher, here's a look at the trailer for the original movie. Davis plays a reluctant hero, who finds himself on an adventure:
When first announced, it wasn't clear if the TV series would start where the movie left off and cast a new actor to play Willow at the same age. But, it sounds like it will reflect the passing of time, with Warwick reprising the role.
When chatting with ComingSoon.net, Davis said, "I’d certainly relish the opportunity to play a character that I really enjoyed playing the first time around. I’m a bit older and a bit wiser as an actor now, and the character would also be a bit older and wiser and I think there’s really an interesting story there."
He asks the questions we're all wondering, going on to ponder, "What has happened between the time we saw him in Willow and now? Has he mastered the art of sorcery? What has happened there?"
Davis seems genuinely surprised by this turn of events (in a good way), saying, “I’m very much excited about the whole prospect. I mean, who knew that we would ever come back or consider doing this again?"
But, he is hesitant, and gives fans a heads up to beware that it might be a minute before we see anything on-screen, saying, "Everything is looking fantastic, but we don’t know as of yet whether this will indeed become a reality."
Even so, he left us with this: "So, fingers crossed. I’m as excited as you are."
1998's Willow was written by George Lucas, with the screenplay by Bob Dolman and directed by Ron Howard. And also starred Val Kilmer. That's going to be hard to top in TV series form... who knows, maybe everyone will return?
Are you on board for more Willow?
