The New Bond Movie Now Has an Official Title
We've been referring to it using its working title, Bond 25, but now the 25th Bond film has an official title: No Time to Die.
The franchise made the announcement on Twitter, accompanied by a brief clip of Daniel Craig looking typically dapper as James Bond.
Director Cary Joji Fukunaga (Beasts of No Nation, True Detective) is shooting No Time to Die now at various locations in the U.K., Norway, Italy, and Jamaica.
When production began in April, the franchise's official website shared a short plot synopsis, which reads: "Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology."
No Time to Die's screenplay has been co-written by Killing Eve executive producer and Fleabag writer-creator-star Phoebe Waller Bridge, and she's spoken about how she hopes to modernize the Bond franchise.
“There’s been a lot of talk about whether or not [the Bond franchise] is relevant now because of who he is and the way he treats women,” she said in April. “I think that’s b*****s. I think he’s absolutely relevant now. It has just got to grow. It has just got to evolve, and the important thing is that the film treats the women properly. He doesn’t have to. He needs to be true to this character.”
It's since been rumored that a new character played by Captain America actress Lashana Lynch will be introduced as the first ever female 007, presumably while Craig's Bond is out of service.
The above hasn't been confirmed yet, but we do know Rami Malek is playing the main villain who’ll cause trouble for Craig's Bond. Franchise faves Andrew Scott, Naomie Harris, and Ben Whishaw are all back, too.
No Time to Die is set to open in U.S. theaters on April 8, 2020, five days after its U.K. release. Bring on the first trailer!
