The Swedish novel The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was first adapted for the big screen in 2009, starring Noomi Rapace in the title role. The foreign film was then Americanized in 2011, starring Rooney Mara as the computer hacker-turned-investigator.

The late author Stieg Larsson’s Millennium novel franchise is being adapted into a series revolving around Lisbeth Salander, aka The Girl. The series, being produced by Amazon, will neither be a continuation or remake, but will instead revolve around Salander, putting her in new situations with new characters, reports Variety. 

If you're not familiar with the premise, Salander works as a researcher and computer hacker. She is assigned to investigate a journalist named Mikael Blomkvist. When Blomkvist realizes she's tracking him, he then hires her to work for him. She is not one to be easily swayed, but it turns out the man who asked to investigate Blomkvist is in fact wrapped up in a controversy, that goes back decades. Blonmkvist and Salander team up and turn the tables on him.

Michael Nyqvist played Blomkvist in the 2009 film (and its two follow-up sequels), with Daniel Craig taking on the role in 2011's English speaking version.

There is much more to Salander, having been declared incompetent as a child, meanwhile, actually being a genius, but the above is a good starting point into the story.

In addition to Rapace and Mara, Claire Foy also took on the complicated character, starring in 2018's The Girl in the Spider's Web.

The series is in the early stages of development, and there's yet to be an actress or writer attached. Even so, we're excited to get more of this story.
