Just a fortnight after Julian Fellowes' new period drama Belgravia announced its cast and went into production, another series from the Downton Abbey creator has started shooting.

Titled The English Game, the six-part Netflix drama tells the story of how soccer – or "football" to Brits – became a global phenomenon. According to the streaming service, it "charts the origins of football and how those involved in its creation reached across the class divide to establish the game as the world's most popular sport."

Netflix has also announced the series' bumper ensemble cast, which includes Edward Holcroft (Kingsman: The Golden Circle, London Spy), Anthony Andrews (Brideshead Revisited, The King's Speech), Kevin Guthrie (Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald), Charlotte Hope (Game of Thrones' Myranda), and Craig Parkinson (Line of Duty, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch).

Other cast members include James Harkness (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Darkest Hour), Niamh Walsh (Jamestown, Jekyll & Hyde), Gerard Kearns (Last Kingdom, Shameless), Joncie Elmore (Downton Abbey's John Pegg), Kate Phillips (The Crown, Peaky Blinders), and Henry Lloyd-Hughes, who just made his first appearance in the latest Killing Eve episode, 'Nice and Neat'.

The sport of soccer as we know it today emerged in England in the middle of the 19th century, so it seems safe to presume that Fellowes will be in familiar period territory for this six-parter.

The English Game is due to launch on Netflix in 2020. In the meantime, the Downton Abbey movie opens in the U.K. on September 13 and in U.S. theaters on September 20, and some fans have already seen the first trailer, which reveals a Royal storyline.
