It doesn't seem all that long since BBC AMERICA's Merlin came to an end, but in actuality it's been three years. And quite a lot can happen in a few years' time. It may seem longer because we grew attached to the series and its characters after five seasons (2008-2012). If you're missing the cast, you can check them out in their latest appearances in TV and film outlined below:

1. Colin Morgan (Merlin) 

We all know the name Merlin, as in the wizard, but in this case we meet him as a young man sans long white beard. Merlin himself is still working out his magical powers in these early days. There's one problem: When he arrives to Camelot, magic has been outlawed, so he's forced to hide his abilities.

Colin Morgan is set to star in the AMC original series Humans, which kicks off this summer in June. The sci-fi drama, also starring The IT Crowd’s Katherine Parkinson, is set in an alternate near-future where household robot servants are as common as today’s iPhone. Prior to Morgan making his return to American television he starred opposite Gillian Anderson in the second season of the The Fall (2014) as Detective Sergeant Tom Anderson. We look forward to seeing him in the June 2015 release of the coming-of-age film Testament of Youth, also starring Kit Harington. He’s already completed filming on Legend, starring Tom Hardy as twins, which is waiting on a U.S. release date.

2. Richard Wilson (Gaius)


Gaius is a very knowledgeable man working as the royal court's physician. In addition to his medical background, he's also studied sorcery. Merlin's mother trusts Gaius, sending her young son to stay with him. Gaius guides Merlin through Camelot, acting as a mentor.

Richard Wilson teamed up with Simon Callow in 2014 for the Playhouse Presents episode “Space Age.” The aging astronauts volunteer for a space mission, opting out of the overpopulated retirement home. He provided a voiceover for the 2013 short film Making Ends Meat. He’s currently filming Danny and the Human Zoo, also starring Doctor Who’s Arthur Darvill. 

3. Bradley James (Arthur Pendragon)


Merlin befriends a young man by the name of Arthur, who is to become the future king. The two are contemporaries, but Merlin keeps a watchful eye on the prince, knowing he might be in danger. Arthur doesn't agree with his father's rulings, which makes his bond with Merlin even stronger.

Bradley James was spotted in season four of Showtime’s Homeland (2014) as J.G. Edgars in the episode “The Drone Queen.” We can currently see him in the CW’s iZombie as Lowell Tracey. He plays a zombified love interest to the heroine, also a zombie, played by New Zealander Rose McIver. We look forward to seeing him in the 2016 release of A&E’s Damien as Damien Thorn. Yes, that Damien.  

4. Anthony Head (Uther Pendragon)


Uther is the King of Camelot, married to Arthur's mother Ygraine. His wife was unable to have children so he called on the aid of a magical being. The magic resulted in a son but also a death. This explains why the king isn't so keen on magic.

Giles, err, we mean Anthony Head, starred in 2013’s Percy Jackson: Sea Monsters. In 2013 he starred in the British miniseries Dancing on the Edge, set in 1930s London. He then set up camp at Syfy starring in two series: Warehouse 13 (2013-2014) and Dominion (2014-2015). He's currently starring on the British comedy series You, Me & Them. He’s completed filming 2016's Despite the Falling Snow, also starring Charles Dance.

5. Katie McGrath (Morgana)


Arthur is considered an only child by the kingdom, even by Arthur himself. But it turns out he has a half sister, Morgana, who Uther fathered with a High Priestess on the side. 

Irish actress Katie McGrath starred opposite Jonathan Rhys Meyers in NBC’s Dracula (2013-2014). She transitioned into film starring in 2014’s Leading Lady and 2015’s The Throwaways. She’s set to star in Colin Trevorrow’s Jurassic World, coming out in June. We’re not the only ones looking forward to the dinosaur reboot with the trailer already receiving 58 million views.

6. Angel Coulby (Guinevere Pendragon)


Ah, Guinevere, oh sweet Guinevere. She goes by "Gwen" with friends. We can count on Gwen to provide some relief amongst this angst-ridden crowd. Gwen eventually ends up with Arthur, but she has to do some work before that happens. Like waiting on Morgana?

Angel Coulby joined Merlin alum Anthony Head in the period miniseries Dancing on the Edge (2013). Also in 2013 she starred in the British/French crime drama The Tunnel. She’s set to lend her voice to the remake of the 1960s animated series Thunderbirds Are Go! (The show features other recognizable British voices like Rosamund Pike and Thomas Brodie-Sangster.) 

7. John Hurt (Kilgharrah)


It wouldn't be a proper magical tale without a dragon. The Great Dragon, or Kilgharrah, is chained in a cave under Camelot by ... who else ... Arthur's father of course. But he's very resourceful for a shut-in: He's able to get into Merlin's ear, and informs him of a telling prophecy.

We love listening to John Hurt as The Great Dragon, but we’d like to see him too. In 2013 he made up for lost time starring as the War Doctor on Doctor Who. Also in 2013 we watched him in the blockbuster Snowpiercer, and he took on the role of Lord Cotys in Hercules in 2014. He’s completed filming on the six-part crime drama The Last Panthers, also starring Samantha Morton, which is set to premiere later this year. We look forward to seeing him in 2016’s The History of Love, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, and Tarzan.
