'The Big Bang Theory's Mayim Bialik Set to Star in Sitcom Based on Miranda Hart's 'Miranda'

The Big Bang Theory actress Mayim Bialik is to star in Carla, a new sitcom based on Miranda Hart's hit British series Miranda.

Bialik will also serve as an executive producer on Carla alongside her former Big Bang co-star Jim Parsons. There's no word yet, though, on whether Parsons will join Bialik on screen.

Bialik shared the exciting news on her Instagram, revealing that the show will feature "so many cats."

Variety reports that Fox has already committed to a full season of Carla, which will center on Bialik's character, a 39-year-old single woman who's spent the money her parents saved for her wedding on opening her own "cat café."

This is a slightly different set-up from Miranda, which followed Hart's character as she ran her own joke shop. In Miranda, the title character's life choices were frequently questioned by her formidable mother (Patricia Hodge), and a disapproving mother character will also have a prominent role in Carla.

American remakes of British sitcoms have a mixed track record – the Steve Carell-led remake of The Office became a huge success, but attempted remakes of Jennifer Saunders' Absolutely Fabulous and James Corden and Ruth Jones' Gavin and Stacey failed to make it onto screen. Carla definitely has an impressive creative team, though: The Big C creator Darlene Hunt is to write and executive produce alongside Bialik and Parsons.

Hart wrote and starred in Miranda, which ran for three seasons plus various specials including a two-part finale that aired in 2015. For a reminder of Hart's endearingly goofy comic style, watch her recalling her meeting with Prince Harry on The Graham Norton Show.
