Taron Egerton has revealed that he was in the running to star in 2018's Solo: A Star Wars Story, before withdrawing from the casting process.
During an interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Welsh actor said he came so close to landing the iconic role that he even stepped on board the Millennium Falcon with Star Wars favorite Chewbacca. "I was with Chewie. I was in the full costume," he recalled. "I felt like I got there, I did it, I lived it."
Continuing, Egerton explained that he decided to pull out of the casting process because playing Solo, a character made famous by Harrison Ford, didn't give him the same buzz as his breakthrough role in 2014's Kingsman: The Secret Service.
"It just felt to me like I didn't feel... like you know when we mentioned earlier, that thing when I read the Kingsman script and I was like, 'This is… I've gotta do this. This is my part,'" he said. "I just didn’t feel it."
The lead role in Solo: A Star Wars Story ultimately went to Alden Ehrenreich, who starred opposite Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, and Thandiwe Newton.
Meanwhile, Egerton fans can catch him at the moment in Black Bird, a prison drama series that debuted on Apple TV+ in July.
