If you're hoping for another helping of Doctor Foster, today brings some disappointing news – star Suranne Jones has said the gripping adultery drama is "done."

Jones won a BAFTA TV award for her performance in the original 2016 series as Gemma Foster, a British doctor who begins to suspect, correctly, that her husband Simon (Tony Award winner Bertie Carvel) is having an affair. A pre-Killing Eve Jodie Comer co-starred as Kate, a much younger university student who has been having a two-year secret relationship with Simon.

The series returned for a second season in 2018 in which Simon tried to turn Tom, he and Gemma's teenage son, against his mother. Comer returned for four of the five episodes. Both seasons attracted huge ratings of around 9-10 million in the U.K., then aired on the U.S. on Lifetime and Netflix.

Asked by Radio Times whether the door is now closed on the character, Jones said: “Yes. I haven’t said that before in interviews, as I tend to say: who knows? I loved it, I love [writer] Mike Bartlett, I love [the producers] Drama Republic.”

She added: “Series one was amazing, series two, equally, peaked at nearly 10 million viewers and pushed in crazy directions. But I think Gemma’s done.”

Suranne Jones fans can see her next in season two of BBC/HBO period drama Gentleman Jack, which is due to begin shooting in June.
