Things might not have gone well for Mary Morstan in the last season of Sherlock, but that hasn't stopped actor Amanda Abbington going from strength to strength.

Variety reports that she's just signed on to star in Safe, a new eight-part thriller that's just started shooting in Manchester, England and is due to air on Netflix next year.

It's written by Harlan Coben, who's actually better known for writing mystery novels and crime thrillers with multiple twists. And as with The Five last year — the bestselling author's first TV project — which starred Downton Abbey's Tom Cullen, Looking's O.T. Fagbenie, and Sarah Solemani (Bridget Jones's Baby), he's penned the scripts with Shameless writer Danny Brocklehurst.

Set in a gated community in the U.K., the show follows a widowed paediatric surgeon bringing up his two teenage daughters alone, until the eldest daughter sneaks out to a party, and a subsequent murder and disappearance turns their lives on their heads.

There are no details yet about which role Amanda will take, but the surgeon, Tom, will be played by Dexter star Michael C. Hall, who's already been spotted by eagle-eyed fans on the streets of Manchester:

Doctor Who's Marc Warren has also been spotted on set, and, though Variety doesn't mention it, Harlan's tweet earlier today (June 12) let slip that another well-known actor will have a part in Safe. As well as linking in Amanda (a.k.a. @CHIMPSINSOCKS) and Danny (@dannybrocklehur), he also added a certain Audrey Fleurot to the list:

Ooh la la. The French actress has recently made her name as the ambitious young lawyer Joséphine Karlsson in French crime drama Spiral, and will no doubt bring a Gallic intensity to the show.

So, to recap: that's a cast featuring Amanda Abbington, Michael C. Hall, and Audrey Fleurot, in a show from an award-winning novelist and made by the team behind Happy Valley. We've got a good feeling about this one.
