Today brings sad news for fans of The Great British Baking Show – co-host Sandi Toksvig has decided to step down.

Toksvig joined the show, known in the U.K. as The Great British Bake Off, in 2017 when it moved networks from the BBC to Channel 4. She's fronted the three most recent seasons alongside co-host Noel Fielding and judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

The show shared the news on Twitter earlier this morning.

Toksvig said in a statement that she made the decision so she can "spend more time with my other work."

"As my waistline will testify, Bake Off is an all-consuming show," she added playfully. "Spending time with Prue, Paul and Noel has been one of the great pleasures of my life. These are friendships which I know will continue beyond the confines of television. Bake Off is a wonderful program which has already proved it can happily withstand a change of hosting personnel. The reason for that, of course, is that the true stars of the show are the bakers themselves. I wish everyone well."

Fans will be reassured to know that the rest of The Great British Baking Show's presenting line-up looks secure, as Channel 4 has said that "the hunt is currently on for a new face to join Noel, Paul, and Prue in the tent."

As fans will recall, the first seven seasons of The Great British Baking Show were hosted by Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, with Hollywood and Mary Berry serving as judges. Giedroyc, Perkins, and Berry all decided to leave the show when it moved networks from the BBC to Channel 4.

The tenth and most recent season of The Great British Baking Show aired on Netflix in the U.S. last fall after debuting a few months earlier in the U.K. Earlier seasons aired in the U.S. on PBS.
