Sam Heughan to Star in Romantic Comedy Period Film 'Mr. Malcom's List'

Outlander star Sam Heughan has signed on for another period project, and this time around it's a rom-com, reports ComingSoon.net.

Suzanne Allain's forthcoming novel Mr. Malcom's List is scheduled to publish on July 28. It's not even out yet, and a movie has been optioned and partially cast. Heughan will be joined by Crazy Rich Asians star Constance Wu.

The story revolves around Mr. Jeremy Malcom, who is one of town's most eligible bachelors in 1800s London. He's in search of a wife and has a list of traits his future partner must meet. He gets involved with a woman named Julia, but after failing to meet one of the requirements, she is tossed aside.

The jilted Julia recruits her friend Selina to seek revenge on Malcom. But her plan is flawed, as Selina genuinely fancies Mr. Malcom. Selina works to break through his superficial facade, hoping there is more to Malcom and his list.

Allain will be writing the script for the feature-length film and working with director Emma Holly Jones. Jones has already produced a short film based on the story, which you can watch in its entirety below:

The short film stars Sope Dirisu (Gangs of London) as Mr. Malcom, who will be returning to reprise the role for the feature adaptation. You may have also spotted Frieda Pinto (Knight of Cups), who is also returning.

Heughan and Wu's characters have yet to be announced, keeping everyone on their toes.

Allain talked about the latest casting in a statement, saying, "I am so incredibly excited and honored to have Constance and Sam join this cast. Their talents know no bounds and I cannot wait to show the world our take on a Regency-era romantic comedy."
