Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Welsh Soccer Team Is Getting a Documentary

Yep, you read that right, actors Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool) and Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) have a soccer (football for those in the U.K.) team.

They aren't players by any means, but purchased the Wrexham A.F.C. soccer club, located in North Wales.

If that sounds surprising to you, you're not the only ones. It's so surprising, in fact, that FX is documenting how this came about in a two-season series, reports Deadline.

The series will follow Reynolds and McElhenney taking ownership of the team, and what it means for the players and the community as a whole, which is described as a working-class city.

When first becoming co-owners, Reynolds talked to Men's Health, saying, "It was us not just purchasing a football club in the national league, but really working on a community that surrounds that club and getting involved in the community around that club and growing that. And that’s the thing that really hooked me."

Reynolds admits this is all new territory for him, saying, "We don’t know anything about running a football club."

Well, thinking positively, that leaves room for improvement.

Nick Grad, president of original programming at FX Entertainment, talks about what to expect, saying in a statement: "Rob and Ryan will take fans inside the sport as never before, pairing their genuine love for the game with the welcome challenge of building on the heritage of this club."

We can look for the documentary over at FX, called Welcome to Wrexham.

This real-life scenario makes us think of Ted Lasso, where an American football coach becomes manager of an English soccer team:

It's not exactly the same, but quite similar.
