Rupert Grint Almost Quit Harry Potter After 'Goblet of Fire'

Harry Potter star Rupert Grint has revealed he considered leaving the film franchise after 2005 movie The Goblet of Fire.

The 30-year-old actor who played Ron Weasley told the Independent yesterday (October 10) that when he was 17 he thought, "'Do I actually want to keep doing this? It's a bit of a drag.'"

That's fair enough, given what happens to poor old Ron in that film. But it turns out Rupert is talking about the pressures of life in the public eye in the months after filming ended.

"Obviously it's a big sacrifice," he explained. "You take for granted anonymity, just doing normal stuff, just going out. Everything was different and a little bit scary. There were times when I was like 'I'm done.'"

Thankfully he changed his mind, and starred in four more Harry Potter movies over the next six years. Since then he's gone on to appear in Snatch, the second season of which has just been released, and sitcom Sick Note. He'll also star as Inspector Crome in the upcoming BBC adaptation of Agatha Christie tale The ABC Murders, which will air on Amazon Video in the U.S.

Are you glad Rupert stuck with it?
