'Rocketman' Star Taron Egerton Responds to Rumors He Could Play Wolverine

With the X-Men expected to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the not too distant future, Rocketman and Kingsman actor Taron Egerton has emerged as a favorite to succeed Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Mark Millar, writer of the Kingsman comic books, has already tipped him as the next Wolverine.

Asked about these rumors by Variety, the Welsh actor replied: "I love Marvel and I love the movies, and I'd love the excuse to get in shape. I'd love to be apart of it. Whether [the role of Wolverine is] realistic or not, I don't know, but I'd love to be a part of one."

When asked if he could grow the character's trademark sideburns, Egerton replied: "Not as well as Hugh!"

Egerton has previously said that rumors linking him to the iconic comic book role are "unfounded," so for now we'll have to keep a lid on our excitement. Oh, and we know for certain that Egerton has a couple of big voice roles in the pipeline: one in Netflix fantasy series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, premiering August 30, and another in Sing 2, due in 2021.

He's also expected to reunite with Colin Firth for another Kingsman movie. Franchise director Matthew Vaughn recently told Digital Spy that “the final chapter of their relationship needs to be told,” and said he’s “hoping to shoot that later this year or the beginning of next year.”
