Robert Pattinson Was Nervous About Losing 'The Batman' Role After Casting Leak

Just a few months ago, it was announced that Robert Pattinson was to be the next Batman... well, possibly. The role hadn't yet been confirmed, but the rumor mill was a crankin'. (We actually waited to post until it was officially-official and came from the director himself.)

Since the casting hadn't been 100 percent confirmed, Pattinson was concerned he might lose the coveted spot. In the first interview since his winning the title role in The Batman, he talks to Variety about managing his nerves.

Pattinson recalls sitting on a plane from L.A. to the South of France, Googling himself incessantly. He was looking for signs from Warner Bros. that they may have changed their mind. It turned out he was sitting next to director Christopher McQuarrie (Mission Impossible - Fallout) who happened to notice Pattinson's feverish search. Pattinson says in the interview, "I’d never met him before. Oh, God! He’d seen me Googling myself for the past hour!"

McQuarrie didn't judge, conceding he'd probably to do the same thing.

Sidenote: We're really liking Pattinson's candidness.

He doesn't go into details about any conversations with the WB folks, but as we know, he made the cut. He did go on to talk about joining the comic universe now vs. post-Twilight years (2008-2012), saying, "I think I probably would have been a little bit nervous to have gone straight into it immediately afterwards."

Like a lot of actors, this is a childhood dream come true, reflecting back, "When I was a kid, it was the only outfit that I had."

He also commented on some of the backlash he saw from fans: "To be honest, it was less vitriolic than I was expecting. It’s much more fun when you’re an underdog. There’s no expectation of you."

Pattinson wrapped up his thoughts on the matter, discussing work ethic, saying, "If you experience a loss of momentum, you don’t want that to happen again. And I really enjoy working. There’s no part of me that can go off and disappear."

We can't really remember a slow period for him, but even so, he is more than busy now. The Lighthouse, in which he co-stars with Willem Dafoe, hits theaters on October 14. He's currently filming Christopher Nolan's action-thriller Tenet. And from there... if our math is correct, the start of The Batman!?

It has been quite a track for this young actor, which we took a look at with this post, The Evolution of Robert Pattinson: 6 Standout Roles You May Not Know About.

We feel like we got to know Robert Pattinson a lot more with this interview. What about you!?
