Reese Witherspoon in Talks to Star in 'Legally Blonde 3'

Reese Witherspoon looks set to put the world to rights once again in a third installment of Legally Blonde.

Deadline reports she's currently "in talks" to reprise her role of Elle Woods, a full 15 years after we last saw her in Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde.

Just what the irrepressible law student will have gotten up to in the intervening years is anyone's guess, but seeing as the first installment saw her graduate from Harvard, and the second get a job in Washington, we expect she's inching ever closer to the White House — albeit without her beloved Bruiser, who must've joined the Chihuahua choir invisible by now.

Legally Blonde 3 will reunite Reese with Karen McCullah and Kirsten Smith, who wrote the original film’s script, and will reportedly be "much in the spirit of the first film" focusing on "female empowerment."

The original film was a surprise commercial success, which kickstarted not only Reese's career, but also a franchise that spawned an award-winning hit musical on Broadway and the West End.

Reese has so far not commented on the prospect of returning to her most famous role. She's busy filming the second season of Big Little Lies, and posted a photo last night (June 4) of her and co-stars Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep and Shailene Woodley bowling:

As well as Big Little Lies, Reese has a TV series with Jennifer Aniston lined up, and another with Kerry Washington. She has Elle to thank for it all — as does anyone who's reaped the benefits of a well-timed bend and snap.

Are you excited to see what Elle's been up to?
