Olivia Colman collected the Best Actress trophy at the BAFTA Film Awards last night (February 10), leading a seven-category sweep for The Favourite, and boosting her Oscar chances with a win over awards season rival Glenn Close.

The acclaimed period comedy-drama, which tells the story of a power struggle between two female advisers in the court of Queen Anne (Colman), also won awards for Outstanding British Film, Best Original Screenplay, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup & Hair, Best Production Design, and Best Supporting Actress.

Colman's co-stars Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone were both nominated for Best Supporting Actress, but Weisz emerged victorious and thanked "everyone that stood by these three women and their story and got this film made."

Meanwhile, Colman charmed guests at London's Royal Albert Hall with her own typically funny and emotional acceptance speech.

Though The Favourite took home the most trophies overall, it lost out on the Best Film and Best Director prizes to Mexico-set drama Roma and its writer-director Alfonso Cuarón. Bohemian Rhapsody's Rami Malek was named Best Actor ahead of Vice's Christian Bale, while Green Book's Mahershala Ali was named Best Supporting Actor over Can You Ever Forgive Me's Richard E. Grant.

Grant and his Can You Ever Forgive Me co-star Melissa McCarthy made light of being "sad losers" on Twitter.

Letitia Wright, known for her roles in Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War as well as the Doctor Who episode 'Face the Raven', won the Rising Star award, the one BAFTA which is voted for my members of the public. Her candid and moving acceptance speech was definitely one of the night's most memorable.
