New Trailer: Olivia Colman Stars in Thriller 'Them That Follow'

In her first feature-length film since winning the 2019 Best Actress Oscar for The Favourite, Olivia Colman stars as a serpent handler in the chilling thriller Them That Follow.

The story is set in the back woods of Appalachia, where a small community lives together in isolation. Led by a pastor (Walton Goggins), his followers prove themselves before God by handling deadly snakes.

Alice Englert (Top of the Lake) takes on the role of the pastor's daughter, Mara. She is devoted to her father and his teachings. Colman portrays a woman named Hope, who helps Mara prepare for her wedding. She provides "a watchful eye," according to ComingSoon.net.

Handling venomous serpents is alarming enough, but the chill factor goes up a notch when it's revealed Mara knows something. Hope seems to be trying to help her come to the truth and face her problems, whatever they may be. Her father's solution is to turn a serpent on her to bring her salvation.

Them That Follow premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and will be in theaters on August 2.

We just saw Colman in the second season of Fleabag, written by and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Killing Eve). She returned to reprise her role of Fleabag's Godmother. We can also look for Colman in the next season of The Crown, as Queen Elizabeth II, premiering in 2020. She's currently filming The Father, opposite Anthony Hopkins.

You may recognize Englert from season two of Top of the Lake. She played Detective Robin Griffin's (Elisabeth Moss) estranged daughter Mary. We can also look for her in the forthcoming medical drama Ratched, also starring Sarah Paulson and Judy Davis.
