The beloved Downton Abbey (2010-2015) series was adapted into a movie in 2019. There’s now a follow-up premiering in March 2022, entitled Downton Abbey: A New Era, which you can look for in theaters, reports ComingSoon.net.
In the first movie, the residents of Downton Abbey, the Crawley family and their staff, were honored with a visit by the King and Queen of Great Britain.
This time around, we’ll see the cast head to the South of France.
Apparently, Dame Maggie Smith’s character, Violet Crawley, Dowager Countess of Grantham, has a former gentleman friend from before she had children, and has been bestowed a villa.
When she delivers the news, her son, Robert Crawley (Hugh Bonneville), seems taken aback, with his eyes widening.
In the newly released trailer, we see loyal butler Charles Carson (Jim Carter) taking a stroll in the garden, saying, “The British are coming.”
Even if you aren’t caught up on the DA series and first movie, this seems like one for the books.
The sprawling landscape and trip to a foreign country is quite enticing for any armchair traveler.
Not to mention, the mysterious storyline… who was this gentleman friend?
In addition to Smith, Bonneville and Carter, we can look for returning cast members like Michelle Dockery, Elizabeth McGovern, and Imelda Staunton, just to name a few.
And to think, at first Dame Maggie wasn’t sure about making a DA movie. Now the sequel storyline is based around her character.
Whew, we’re glad she changed her mind (as people do).
You can look for Downton Abbey: A New Era in theaters on March 18.
Are you going to venture out to the cinema for this one?
