New Trailer: Anne Hathaway Stars in Adaptation of Roald Dahl's 'The Witches'

Roald Dahl's 1983 novel The Witches was made into a movie in 1990 starring Anjelica Huston as the Grand High Witch. The children's story is getting another movie makeover with Anne Hathaway (The Devil Wears Prada) to take the lead, reports Empire Online.

Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future) and Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water) have co-written the script, with Zemeckis also directing.

The 1983 book revolves around an orphaned seven-year-old boy who goes to live with his grandmother. She warns him about “real” witches, who catch and kill children. It sounds like a tall tale, until he does in fact fall prey to a gaggle of witches plotting to rid the world of children by turning them into mice.

The new movie, also starring Octavia Spencer, Jahzir Bruni and Stanley Tucci, appears to stick to the story:

If you think you recognize the narrator's voice, that's Chris Rock moving the story along.

You can look for The Witches on October 22, just in time for Halloween.
