Nerds Rejoice! New 'Star Trek' and 'The Big Bang Theory' Spin-Offs Release Trailers Same Day
Oh, gosh — where do we start? Both Star Trek and The Big Bang Theory are getting spin-offs. And, you know who just happens to be a huge Star Trek fan? Former prodigy (and Big Bang character) Sheldon Cooper, of course.
First, Executive Producer Bryan Fuller's Star Trek TV series is heading to CBS this fall. The sci-fi series — named after the Starfleet ship Discovery — is set ten years prior to the original series, which kicked off in 1966.
You may recognize the theme song in the first look at the footage, released yesterday (May 17), but besides that, it's new characters, new ship, new planets. And, even new-looking Klingons. Ultimately, new adventures.
Here's a peek at the trailer, starring Michelle Yeoh as Captain Georgiou, Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham, and James Frain as Spock's father, Sarek:

And, that's not all. As you may well know, Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons in The Big Bang Theory, is a big fan of the intergalactic series, particularly Spock. As depicted in the scene when Sheldon's Spock action figure spoke to him, advising Sheldon on embracing his "human half," like the Vulcan does.
Sheldon talks about his upbringing in Galveston, Texas, in the long-running show. And we've met his mother, Mary Cooper (Laurie Metcalf), who gives us some insight into her prodigal son's early life. But, now we'll get a bunch of answers, meeting Sheldon as a 9-year-old boy (Iain Armitage). Possibly even his introduction to Star Trek?
He has a twin sister, but will be gate-crashing his older brother's freshman class. Needless to say, his big bro is not too keen on this turn of events.
The trailer outlines what to expect of the CBS series, also premiering in the fall, narrated by "our" Sheldon. The trailer is on the longer side (5:15), but we highly suggest watching it through the end, with a very sweet exchange between the little boy and his father:
